yoga classes at Lighten Up Yoga are based in the alignment principles of yoga that have been gifted to the yoga community by BKS Iyengar. Classes include asanas (physical postures), pranayama
(breath control), and relaxation.
Intro -Yoga Basics – Open to any level, because we all often need to go back to the basics. Stretch & tone with the foundations of alignment yoga. Standing, seated, and twisting postures will be learned as well as supported inversions and breath regulation. With emphasis on instruction, it’s perfect for the beginner and students who want a slower paced class.
Level 1 – A deeper focus on the basic poses to increase strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance. Learn to keep a calm and quiet mind while challenging your body to hold poses longer, move with the breath, and progress with your inversions. Open to all levels.
Level 1 & 2 – A full range of alignment postures; arm balances, backbends, inversions will be taught. A Strong practice with a focus on refinements, subtleties and technique of the asana. Progressions will be offered depending on a student’s ability. Some prior yoga experience is recommended.
Level 2 – Prior yoga experience and a working knowledge of inverted poses recommended. A full range of alignment postures; arm balances, backbends, and inversions will be taught. A strong practice with a focus on refinements, subtleties and technique of the asana.
All Levels – A suitable yoga class for in shape beginners with a minimum of 3 months of yoga experience. Anticipate a well-rounded class to clear your mind and lift your spirit.
Extended class descriptions:
Yoga After 50, Therapeutic- – This unhurried class is perfect for beginner & people with re-occurring or present injuries or aliments. Detailed instruction given on the foundations of alignment yoga and breath regulation, standing, seated, lying and twisting postures will be learned. Props are used to assist students into yoga postures safely and comfortably.
Intro - Back Care/Yoga Basics - Learn how to promote a balance of strength and flexibility for most types of joint aches; back pain, hip pain, and shoulder, knee or neck pain. Simple time-tested yoga postures will be offered along with a therapeutic understanding of how to apply your yoga poses to create the greatest freedom and ease. Please no baggy pants.
Yoga After 50, level 1 - A Well-rounded class to keep your body and mind healthy and flexible. Poses in all categories will be practiced and adapted to individual needs, including some inversions. Open to all ages.
Core Strength Yoga - Open to all levels, with a focus on developing core stability for the spine, shoulder, and pelvis. Each class will highlight a muscle group: the abdominal, back, shoulder, neck, and hips. The intent will be to build strength, flexibility, alignment and awareness in the core body to improve posture and efficiency of movement in our daily life.
Women's Health Yoga, level 1 - Its great being a woman and having our own unique journey through life. Join Lillah to learn the many ways yoga can help maintain hormonal balance, keeping us flowing smoothly through the many cycles of our lives, as well as keeping our bones, joints, and heart healthy. Standing, seated and twisting postures will be learned to maintain overall strength and stability along with inversions and breath regulation. Props are used to assist students into yoga postures safely and comfortably. Open to all levels.
Vinyasa, all levels - An inspiring class weaving together movement, breath and the ancient wisdom teachings of yoga. By linking the asanas with movement (vinyasas) you'll build strength simultaneously with flexibility and your body will learn to use oxygen more efficiently leading to better energy flow both on and off the mat. Lead with compassion, you'll leave class with a deeper self-connection.
Every-Body Yoga - Alignment focused, suitable yoga class for in shape beginners with some yoga experience. A well-rounded class to engage your body, clear your mind and lift your spirit.
Fluid Body Yoga , level 1-2 - Are fluid, adaptive, dynamic and fun. Asana helps us to develop physical strength and grace, we also find the opportunity to evolve mentally, emotionally and spiritually. With the benefits of aware breathing and fluid movement we can energize our life force (prana) and better learn how to relax, release and enjoy living. Through flow and sustained poses, we follow the breath and explore body/mind awareness in a non-static way. We transition through the poses smoothly and adapt each to our individual capabilities.
