Most
yoga classes at Lighten Up Yoga are based in the alignment principles derived from the Iyengar Method and include asanas (physical postures), pranayama
(breath control), and relaxation.
General
Back Care: Designed to relieve stiffness in the hips, spine and shoulders, improve posture, relieve stress and live well. Also recommended
for students who want or need a progressive approach to the yoga poses. Please
no baggy pants.
Back Pain Relief: Learn a simple time-tested routine to promote strength & stability. A gentle therapeutic class for people who suffer from back pain or other neuromuscular discomfort.
Private Sessions with Lillah : Invest in your mind, body and soul. Lillah is here to support you in discovering the best yogic practices to meet your personal goals for health and well-being. In this one hour digitally recorded session, she will customize yoga to your needs. Whether you practice Power, Vinyasa, Restorative, Ashtanga, Anusara, Iyengar or require Adaptive Therapeutic Yoga Lillah's insight will be a vital contribution to your wellness.
Intro to Yoga : No need to feel lost, foolish or out of place. Join this class if you have no yoga experience. Ideal for new students or ongoing students who like a slower, more gradual approach to yoga. Learn the basics of posture and breath in alignment based yoga. We will help you explore and thrive with this wonderful path.
Yoga for MS and Other Conditions: For everyone who requires a gentle therapeutic sequence of poses. These sequences will stimulate healthy organ function and rest the nervous system. Yoga After 50: A Well-rounded class to keep your body and mind healthy and flexible. Poses in all categories will be practiced and adapted to individual needs. Open to all ages.
Core Strength Yoga: All levels. Each class will include work for the abdominals, back muscles and upper body. The intent will be to build the strength, flexibility, alignment and awareness in the core body to sustain the asanas in our practice and to stay upright and strong in our daily life. This is not an asana class, but should prepare the body's infrastructure for a deeper asana practice. Designed to assist bodies in the on-going fight against gravity.
Yoga for Relaxation: Begin the day by nourishing and rejuvenating the body, mind,and spirit with gentle movements and asanas. We will stimulate the health of our joints and glands and move energy through the body as we release tension, trauma, and promote stillness of mind as a preparation for meditation. Those new to yoga and those with developed yoga practices will enjoy this authentic approach to yoga as one fostering self-transformation and management of stress.
TGIF
Yoga (Thank Goodness It's FRIDAY!): Do you spend all your week looking
forward to Friday? Now there's a brand new reason to TGIF! Bring a friend,
stretch away the week's stress, and then go out on the town! Start off
a relaxed and energized weekend with Friday night yoga. Level 1 and 2. I hear there may be chocolote there!
Asana
Level 1: Learn basic asanas (postures) and pranayama (breath regulation).Good choice for new students or those new to alignment based yoga.
Asana Level 1 and 2: is a more challenging class for
students with some experience and those new to the alignment principles. Build strength as well as
flexibility. Includes a range of standing postures, twists, chest openers,
and simple inversions.
Asana Level 2 and 3: is recommended for people with an
average of six months yoga class
experience. All categories of asanas
including headstands, shoulder stands, backbends and pranayama will be
practiced. Progressions will be offered depending on a students experience
and ability.
EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique is easy to learn and remarkably effective for relieving and eliminating: Anxiety, Guilt, Cravings, Pain, Phobias and Self Defeating Patterns. It’s like Acu-Aspirin for what ails you. Based on balancing the energy meridians, EFT is fairly simple. It is easily self-applied and an amazingly effective self-help tool that offers you lasting change.
Jivamukti Yoga : Jivamukti means liberation form separation. Classes at Lighten Up offer moderately vigorous Hatha Yoga with an emphasis on the Source teachings from such ancient texts as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Upanishads. Meditation and Sanskrit is taught and chanted in their traditional forms. All classes are open to students of all levels.
In the practices of yoga, our resistance to the natural state of bliss and our attachment to the world of forms and senses is made apparent. When we feel limitation in the body or the mind while practicing yoga, we are afforded the opportunity to concentrate on our true nature, which is love itself, beyond limitation.
