The Training
The Institute prepares students to lead safe and effective beginning yoga classes and creates the foundations for understanding the therapeutic applications of yoga. Students investigate the lineage of Astanga yoga, yoga as a path to body-mind integration, yoga as a healing art, and yoga philosophy from a variety of sources.

The Student
Whether you are already teaching yoga classes or are preparing to do so, you will find these courses to be educational, practical, and inspirational.
Candidates are best suited for these programs if:

  • you are a yoga enthusiast with at least one to two years yoga experience
  • you are interested in deepening and challenging your own practice
  • you have the desire to teach your own body and/or others

The Lifestyle Participant
This training will effectively challenge you to reach new heights with your personal practice, and to expand your yoga community. Training alongside those seeking to become teachers will develop your awareness of the more subtle aspects of yoga. As a lifestyle participant you will not be required to complete all the homework assignments or participate in the end-of-course teaching demonstration. To optimize your growth however, you will however be asked to complete several of the assignments. Keeping a journal is optional.

The Experience
Course graduates will gain a clear sense of how to lead a successful class, how to address the needs of a diverse population, and an understanding of your own strengths and gifts as a teacher. Besides receiving one-on-one mentorship and assistance from Lillah Schwartz, participants will work with an experienced, skillful staff Lillah selected specifically for these programs.

The Certification
Upon receiving your certification from Lighten Up! Yoga, you may apply to Yoga Alliance and receive your Registered Yoga Teacher status. You will also be prepared to pursue more in-depth certifications such as The National Iyengar Yoga Association Certification.

Mentorship Program
Graduates of previous Institute programs assist new students through the mentorship program. Mentors provide individual attention to students to enhance their learning experience. If you are a graduate of the Institute program and would like to participate in this valuable experience, please contact Lighten Up!
