Yoga Class Descriptions

What Is Iyengar Yoga?

Iyengar yoga is a philosophy, an art, and a practice for better living. The Iyengar Method is based in the priciples of balance and alignment, using the inner structures of the body to open the heart and mind. Safe and progressive, Iyengar yoga is ideal for beginners and teaches the proper form of each pose for optimal physical, mental, and spiritual benefit. Lighten Up instructors are all trained in the Iyengar Method and individually selected by the director for their dedication, effectiveness, and innate abilities as yoga teachers. With the use of yoga props, modifications, and gentle adjustments, they identify each student's strengths, weaknesses, and ability inorder to experience the full potential of yoga.

Iyengar yoga was first introduced in the US in 1976 by its founder, BKS Iyengar. Since then his method has spread the world over and forms the basis for or has influenced the majority of yoga styles recognized today.
