The Program

The natural expansion of the Teacher Training Institute allows students who hold a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Registration thru Lighten Up Yoga or other Yoga training school to continue their education to the 500 hour level. Additional pre-requisites and electives will need to be acquired in order to fulfill all course requirements.

The 500 hour program is an opportunity to develop your teaching skills and expand your understanding of yoga and its application. Together we will explore how to address therapeutic needs Yoga philosophy and spirituality The basics of Aryuveda How to teach difficult poses Practice in pose adjustments Linking instructions and developing class themes.

Pre-Requisites Electives

Graduates of our 230 hour program will need to complete and document 50 hours of approved yoga trainings as pre-requisite electives. These elective hours can be taken at Lighten Up Yoga in conjunction with or after the Level I course, or with qualified teachers elsewhere.

Graduates of other programs with a 230 hour certificate will also need to satisfy the 50 hr pre-requisite requirement . If you hold a 200 hour certificate from another school, you will need a total of 70 hrs of approved pre-requisite electives in the appropriate categories . Please enclose any documentation for consideration with your application.

Documentation can include a copy of the workshop flyer and your proof of payment or an outline of the topics covered, the instructor, location and hours of study, along with proof of payment.

Course Electives

To complete all requirements for the 500 hr Yoga Alliance Registration you will need an additional 50 hrs of electives that are geared toward yoga teachers.

We recommend that you attend 4 training weekends each year either as pre- requisite electives or course electives along with the 2 core curriculum for that year. Electives are of course just that, and you may choose to take more time to complete them.

The time line for completing electives and thus the course will vary for each student. Core curriculum will need to be completed in 2 years.

The Formula

4 - 5 pre-requisite electives (50-70 hrs) at Lighten Up Yoga or other locations
4 Core Curriculum Modules at Lighten Up Yoga (two each year)
+4 Elective Modules (50 or more contact hours) at Lighten Up Yoga
Or pre-approved seminars at other locations with Iyengar Certified Teachers.

(Payment plan available) Register before April 5, 2005 and save $100.

Once enrolled, each payment will be due one month prior to training. In case of absence: payments are due and non-refundable. However the time may be made up at another weekend
